Change them at 100,000 miles or sooner if the engine begins to run rough, loose power, or get poor mileage change them earlier. I would also recommend you replace the plug wires. Do them one at a time as to not get confused.

Some one got lazy and did not change them all. Or chose not too do the hard ones.
