The arthropod reproductive strategy is to lay (or carry) eggs, which hatch into larvae after sufficient development time to survive as larvae. Scorpions are a notable exception, which give live birth and extended care to young.

When the larvae emerge from eggs depends on many factors, often depending on season or temperature. Many arthropods have a remarkable mechanism in which the eggs hatch all at the same time, which may yield a slight survival advantage against predation.
