No. An engagement ring is given in contemplation of marriage. If the marriage occurred the contract was completed and the ring became the woman's property. Unless there was some prenuptial agreement the ring belongs to her.

First of all, an engagement ring is considered a gift and as such belongs to the recipient. Do you have a right to get your engagement ring back if the engagement is called off in California?

No, once a woman is given an engagement ring it is hers to keep, but many women would prefer to give the ring back as they are no longer engaged. Also, even if the man gets the engagement ring back it would be crass to give it to another woman should he become engaged again. If the engagement ring was a family heirloom then it would be kind of her to return the ring.

In Australia who keeps the engagement ring when the engagement breaks up?

Unless it is a family heirloom then the young woman can keep the engagement ring as it was a gift to her of the young man's pledge of love. A man who has given an engagement ring to his girlfriend and either one breaks up then a man should not give that engagement ring to another woman that may come into his life. Women would not want some other woman's engagement ring. If he still owes money on the ring then it is entirely up to you as to whether you wish to give it back to him or not.

Do you have to give back engagement ring?

When a man gives an engagement ring to the one he loves at that time and they split up the woman in question does not have to give the ring back as it was a gift to her. However, if the ring is a family heirloom it would be nice of her to give the ring back.Actually this is based off of your state's laws and sometimes, if it goes to court, the judge's verdict. In many states, the engagement ring is used as a symbol of two people entering into a contract to get married. If they do not follow through with the contract (no marriage) then the ring must be returned to the person that bought it. The ring does not belong to the woman until she is married. It is not a "gift." It is a symbol of a contract. Conclusion : Yes You should give engagement rings.

He took the engagement ring and ended the relationship?

In case of engagement ring, its Yes. man has the full right to take back ring as it doesn't claim any relationship that had been broken. but in case of bridal sets, its goes to woman, always.Generally when an engagement is broken off the young woman should be able to keep the ring as it was given to her and her ex fiance has no need for it because if he met another young woman and got engaged she would want her own engagement ring. If the engagement is a family heirloom then yes, it would be nice if the ex fiance would give the ring back to him, but that is the only exception.
