The government can not intervene in people's religious choices, however if someone does a dangerous type of crime, like murder, the government has a responsibility to arrest the criminal. One example is if an atheist KKK member plans an attack on innocent people or if a muslim breaks the law and does what was referred to as an honor killing, the gov would arrest and convict.
