You should give it at least a day before have a cigarette and use salted warm water to gargle with and spit out. The salt helps to heal. If you are bleeding DON'T sip out of a straw when drinking. Have soups, dip bread in the soup, yogurt, jelly, etc., that are all soft foods for approx. 3 days. After that you should be able to continue on as usual. Ceprocol is another good mouthwash (ask your pharmacist if you can't find it on the shelf) to keep bacteria down in your mouth and also keep your breath fresh. Blood in the mouth can smell. At least 48 hours, or you might get a dry socket.
You should absolutely not smoke anything for at least a week after surgery, and preferably two or three weeks. It can result in dry socket, where the clot over the removed tooth is dislodged. Smoking also puts hot, fine particles in your mouth which may cause infection. Mouthwash will not help with either of these problems; quite the contrary, using mouthwash is also not advised for the first few days as it can cause or contribute to dry socket.
If you must smoke due to some severe addiction (rare with marijuana, more frequent with tobacco), try to wait at least a few days (3-5) and be careful not to suck vigorously. Nicotine patches may help you avoid the urge to smoke during this period. Some suggestion has been made that use of antiseptic mouthwashes would be net benefit to help prevent infection when smoking after several days, though care should be taken again to minimize movement at the affected area. If at all possible, just don't smoke anything until the wound has healed.
If I were you I would take this opportunity to stop smoking. If you have not had one for a few days the most intense of the stop smoking physical withdrawal agony has passed for you. Now you just have to maintain the resistance to craving a smoke after eating or lighting up every time you get in the car or turn on the TV or whatever.
This is a great opportunity for you...take it
Wait at least 48 hours.
The amount of time that you have to wait to begin smoking again after the removal of a wisdom tooth is about five days to a week. Smoking too soon after an extraction can lead to a very painful infection called dry socket. It is best to ask your dentist.
It's wise to wait a couple of days even if the dentist has put in a couple of stitches to close the hole the extraction made. Gargle with salt water and try to keep the area clean. If you can't handle two days then have a smoke on occasion and then rinse your mouth out with warm water and salt, spit out.

The 2nd day after your wisdom tooth extraction, you are restricted to soft foods such as jello.
