Best Answer

A healthy dog can be spayed as early as 6 weeks; however, it is best to spay a dog between 8 weeks and 6 months of age. It depends on your veterinarian's training. The ideal age to spay a dog may not be within your veterinarian's training. It is a special skill to spay a young dog. If your veterinarian does not have the special training, then have her spayed as close to 6 months as possible. It is FAR better to have her spayed BEFORE she has even one heat cycle. There are health advantages that decrease with each heat cycle she experiences, so the sooner, the better.

You can get your puppy spayed no earlier then 6 months of age.

Traditionally, a spay or neuter surgery takes place when a pup is approximately 6 months old, before puberty sets in. The age of 6 months was chosen arbitrarily years ago and isn't set in stone. Today, veterinarians know that a spay or neuter surgery can be performed as early as 6 to 8 weeks of age with no harmful effects.

Young puppies recover more quickly than older ones from a spay or neuter surgery, and are often up and about in a matter of hours. Veterinarians have learned from experience that the procedures are easier to perform on young pups (due to less fat and muscle tissue). Overall, the younger animals recover faster and with less pain.

Some veterinarians prefer to wait until a puppy is at least 4 months (16 weeks) old before performing a spay or neuter surgery. It's earlier than sexual maturity, and the pup is still resilient. The vaccines are finished, they're completely de-wormed and they're not having any common pup problems, such as diarrhea. but advanced surgical procedures now allow for better results when done very early.

When fixing pets, you have to wait for a certain time. When females have their first heat, it is time to fix them. Sometimes you can do it before she even enters her first heat, but is better to wait. In males, and soon as their testicles drop (and before they start hiking their leg) consult your vet to schedule a fixing. After this is done, the females will not come in heat and cant breed, and males cant hike their leg or breed.
