incorrect choke adjust ment. when cold if choke is working correctly the car will idle higher until warm enough for the choke to release.

It Depends on the year of the car as to whether it has a choke or not. If it fuel injected it will not have one. If that is the case it could possibly be due to a coolant temperature sensor. If there is a check engine light on,it would be best to have the computer scanned for codes.

89 accord lxi fuel injected when car is cold idles 1200 then warms up idles at 800 to 2500 than after an hour it will idle at 1200 all in park never idles erratic in gear -3 mpg?

If a 1989 Honda Accord is experiencing idle issues the idle air control valve should be checked. A malfunctioning valve will cause the engine to run richer to compensate for less air and cause the car to have bad fuel economy.

Why would a 1989 Honda Civic LX that starts up fine idles very rough until it warms up?

This is most likely a cold air idle valve which is stuck closed. This is located on the throttle body. You could take it off, clean it and reassemble it, or just pull one out of the junk yard, they usually don't go bad until 200000+ miles.
