Minerals refer to substances that are naturally formed in the Earth. Examples of minerals that make up the Earth's crust are gold, diamond and quartz.
Minerals is a geological term for solids with particular structures. See related link. Oil and natural gas are frequently listed as minerals by various organizations in discussing a country's "mineral wealth." Oil and gas are not minerals by the definition given on the related link, however they share one quality with minerals - they were formed by natural mechanical and chemical processes in the earth. Coal is a more complex issue because there are many types of coal, some types qualify as minerals. The terms graphite, anthracite and lignite refer to minerals. If I don't know the type of coal, I can refer to coal as a rock. See related links.
The proportions of lettering refer to the relationship between the height of the letters and other elements in the design. It involves determining the appropriate size and spacing of letters to create visual harmony and legibility. Proportions are essential in creating balanced and well-designed typography.
Vitamins are organic compounds while minerals are inorganic and have a definite chemical composition. While some minerals are required by the human body, all vitamins are required by the human body for nutrition and health.
Their ability to differentiate into other cell types.

The term is not applicable here. The terms fracture and cleavage refer to the manner in which minerals break. Gneiss is not a mineral, it is a rock composed of multiple minerals.
Rock-forming minerals are the 20 most common minerals on Earth. However, 10 minerals actually make up 90 percent of the Earth's crust. We refer to these 10 minerals as "grains".
Desalination, desalinization, or desalinisation refers to any of several processes that remove excess salt and other minerals from water. More generally, desalination may also refer to the removal of salts and minerals, as in soil desalination.

No. Gypsum has a hardness on the Mohs scale of 2. Topaz has a hardness on the Mohs scale of 8. This means that topaz ranks much harder than gypsum and that gypsum cannot scratch topaz. Please do not refer to these numbers as absolute hardness. This does not mean that topaz is 4 times as hard as gypsum since they are ranked 8 and 2. The Mohs scale only designates a hardness scale of 1 through 10 so that geologists and mineralogists in the field have a quick way of determining a mineral's identity or eliminating possible options of what the mineral may be.
A metallic mineral, which contains sufficient quantities of the metal, so that the metal can be extracted efficiently, is called an ore. However, ores can also refer to minerals from which non-metallic substances can be extracted.
