In 2013
The EU candidate status is a political label to show the Union is willing to start negotiations for accession. The Commission's website states: "When a country is readyit becomes an official candidate for membership - but this does not necessarily mean that formal negotiations have been opened."
Albania's entry into the EU could enhance regional stability, promote economic development, and strengthen democratic institutions. Joining the EU would provide Albania with access to funding, trade opportunities, and the ability to align with European standards in governance and human rights. However, challenges such as corruption, rule of law, and economic reforms must be addressed to meet EU criteria effectively. Overall, EU accession could benefit both Albania and the EU by fostering a more integrated and stable Southeast Europe.
Yes, they will. and go F**k yourself Mathewd3 and your country
Croatia has applied for membership to the European Union and has passed the candidate stage. It will join the EU in July 2013. Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey have all applied for membership to the European Union. Their applications have been approved and are currently undergoing background checks and negotiations, but have not been approved for membership status yet. The next country to become a member of the EU will most likely be Iceland. Albania has sent in its application for joining the European Union, however it is still being evaluated and has not yet been approved. Albania is currently not a candidate for joining the EU. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are two countries that the European Union wishes would send in applications for membership. Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed that they are working on an application. Kosovo is unlikely to become a member so easy if Serbia is to be granted admission, due to their sovereignty dispute.
At present there are 5 countries waiting for full membership. They are: Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, Albania and Montenegro. The other 3 except Macedonia and Albania have started accession talks. Bosnia has formally applied for membership. For Kosovo, the picture is different. 5 full member countries still refuse to recognize the independence of Kosovo.
At the moment (September 2008) countries trying to join the EU include: * Turkey * Croatia * Serbia * Macedonia * Albania
Albania's accession to the European Union (EU) would bring several advantages, including enhanced economic growth through access to a larger single market and increased foreign investment. It would also promote democratic reforms and strengthen governance, improving the rule of law and human rights. Additionally, EU membership would provide Albania with access to various funding programs for infrastructure and development, boosting its overall development prospects. Finally, being part of the EU would enhance Albania's geopolitical stability and security through closer ties with other member states.
Croatia is due to become the 28th member of the EU on 1st July 2013. Five more countries have applied and are recognized as candidates by the EU: - Turkey (Membership application submitted 14 Apr 1987, Candidate status granted 12 Dec 1999). - Macedonia (Membership application submitted 22 Mar 2004, Candidate status granted 17 Dec 2005). - Iceland (Membership application submitted 16 Jul 2009, Candidate status granted 17 Jun 2010). - Montenegro (Membership application submitted 15 Dec 2008, Candidate status granted 17 Dec 2010). - Serbia (Membership application submitted 22 Dec 2009, Candidate status granted 1 Mar 2012). Croatia's membership negotiations ran from 3rd October 2005 to 30th June 2011.
England -- or, rather, the United Kingdom because it includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland -- is already a member of the EU and has been since 1973. The UK has not joined the European common currency, the Euro, and still uses Sterling.
No, not at the moment. To see a list of member EU countries look in the related link below.
Turkey
There are currently candidate countries: Iceland Montenegro Serbia Macedonia Turkey Albania has also sent in their application, which must be reviewed and accepted before they can be a candidate. Bosnia and Herzegovina have said that they would fill out an application for admission in 2009 and 2010, but no application was received by the EU. The country is most likely still creating one and will send one in the future. In addition, Bosnians and Herzegovinians are allowed to travel visa-free to the EU. Kosovo is also seen as a possible candidate by the EU and its politicians predict Kosovo will join the EU by 2015. However, no application has been filled out and Kosovaars are still not allowed to travel visa-free to the EU.
