The Wailers, originally formed as a backing band for Bob Marley, split up primarily due to creative differences and personal tensions within the group. After Marley's death in 1981, the remaining members pursued different musical directions and projects. Additionally, the desire for individual artistic expression and the changing landscape of reggae music contributed to their eventual separation. Over time, some members have reunited for tours and performances, but the dynamics have never returned to their original state.

Bob Marley And The Wailers, also known as The Wailing Rudeboys, were formed in 1963. The band was formed by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The band performed Jamaican reggae music. Tosh and Wailer eventually left the band, and the lineup went through many different members, with Marley as the only person to always be involved, until the end of the band in 1981.

Bob Marley's first best friend was Neville "Bunny" Livingston, who later became known as Bunny Wailer. They grew up together in the village of Nine Mile, Jamaica, and formed a close bond through their shared love of music. Along with Peter Tosh, they later co-founded the legendary reggae group The Wailers. Their friendship and collaboration were instrumental in shaping Marley's musical career.
This is a most important question to answer, and here is the truth that most of the media tries to ignore. Before Bob Marley came into trench town there were three youths who sang around the area. Their names were- Junior Braithwaite, Garth Dennis, and Ricardo (Ras Cardo) Scott. These youths had already given themselves the name as - THE WAILERS,and no other youth group existed before then with that name. Then Bob Marley came into the area to live and was in the company of these youths. He decided that he also wanted to sing. Shortly thereafter Junior Braithwaite had to leave the island to join his family in Chicago, and Ricardo( CARDO ) was told by his parents to focus on his schooling since he had just been accepted in the prestigious High School- St. Georges College. Bob Marley wanted them both to be his partners in singing, but parental wishes took precedence. Ricardo(CARDO), then told Bob that he would help him along as best he could, and so Bob looked to Peter Tosh, and Bunny Livingston to Join him. Cardo, Junior, and Seeco Told Joe Higgs to help Bob along. Peter and Bunny accepted, and so they began to rehearse songs together at the back of Cardo's yard. In the initial stages, there was no such thing as- BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS, just all three rehearsing -AS ONE. Cardo had given Bob the name- Wailers to use and he accepted. SIMPLY STATED- ONE SET OF YOUTHS TOOK THE NAME OF THE ORIGINAL SET OF YOUTHS. THERE CAN AND WAS ONLY ONE ORIGINAL WAILING WAILERS GROUP. NEVER WAS THERE A SECOND ORIGINAL. BOB MARLEY AND HIS GROUP WAS NEVER THE ORIGINAL WAILERS. THIS WAS NEVER TRUE AS THE MEDIA KEEPS PORTRAYING IT. Bob went under the tutelage of Joe Higgs and Seeco and later brought Cherry, Joanne Dennis, and Beverly to be his female back up vocals. These females were the original wailers back up with Bob, Peter and Bunny. THERE WERE NO I- THREES WITH RITA, MARCIA, OR JUDY THEN. As time went on Bob was influenced by others to name the group- Bob Marley and the wailers. Cardo continued to keep his presence and at times give his help to many of the initial songs and also went to coxsone with the group and did some initial recordings. junior did the same before he left the island. Cardo and Junior was always a close brethren and confidant to all the members until their deaths.
Marley (the dog) ends up dying.
