Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin was disappointed that the congress chose the bald eagle as the national bird, and said in a letter to his daughter that he would have preferred the wild turkey. The letter was passed on to congress, and has become and interesting part of the history of the United States. There is a link below to an article on the wild turkey, where Franklin's comments are quoted.
In his letter, Franklin encourages a friend to marry. His friend should also favor "old women to young ones."
Nobody singed the Gettysburg Address, it was a speech, not a letter. And Franklin had been dead for decades when Lincoln gave the speech.

Most people believe that it was Benjamin Franklin who decided on the turkey instead of the bald eagle. But, to date, there is actually no proof that he said such a thing.Franklin jokingly suggested it in a letter he wrote to his daughter, Sarah Bache, on January 26, 1784. The letter was written after Congress took six years to decide upon the eagle as the emblem of the United States. If you read the entire text, it's fairly clear that he is being facetious. The manuscript of the letter now resides in the Library of Congress.

Benjamin Franklin said this quote in a letter to Jean Baptiste Le Roy
Franklin was a negotiator for funds from the French. He was very popular in France and became like a rock star . He was with Adams and Jefferson and Adams in a letter to his wife complained about Franklin's not trying to learn French, his party lifestyle, and that he flirted with all the ladies. Franklin was a character and liked to have fun.
