On May 5, 1987, Disney issued "Disney Dollars," its own special currency, good for purchases at Disney parks and retail stores. Mickey's face was featured on the $1 bill, with Goofy gracing a $5. Disney issued a $10 bill featuring Minnie on November 20, 1989. The idea for a Disney Dollars currency came about when Disney was preparing for the opening of the first Disney Store (on March 27, 1987) in Glendale Galleria in California.
