Jewish people have no common view of Britain. It depends entirely on the person.
It was never Britain's decision to create a Jewish homeland in the territory referred to as Palestine. The League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations, created the mandate and gave it to Britain to administer. Britain then violated its mandate by giving 80% of the land set out to be the Jewish homeland to the Arabs.
In Jewish law you are Jewish if your mother is Jewish. So long as you know that your mother and her mother (and her mother, etc.) isn't Jewish then you are not Jewish. There is no magical (or medical or any scientific way) to know if you're Jewish.

According to Tradition, a person is Jewish if their mother is Jewish. If you do not know the religion of your mother, you are assumed not to be Jewish. Even in liberal movements that recognize patrilineal heritage, the person must also be raised Jewish. So if you weren't raised Jewish, you are not Jewish.
