I think the last one we had ( recently) was in the Mono Lake region. Many happen there because there is volcanic activity. In fact, the volcanic gases are so bad there that all the plants have died. Earthquakes happen just about everyday here, but most are so small that we don't feel them. They also happen in remote areas and only when an aftershock hits a populated area do we hear about them.
