Confederate General John Marshall Jones graduated from West Point in 1841. He was ranked 39th among his graduating class of 52 cadets. Jones served in all of the major battles in the Eastern Theater. This included the battles of Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.He was shot and killed at the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864.
Confederate General William Edmonton Jones graduated from West Point in 1848. He was ranked tenth among his graduating class of 38 cadets. Jones served in both battles of Bull Run. He also participated in the Peninsula campaign. In 1864 he was killed at the Battle of Piedmont.
Confederate David Rumph Jones graduated from West Point in 1846. Among his graduating class of 59 cadets, Jones was ranked 41st. Jones was a Mexican War veteran and in the US Civil War, his battles were in the Eastern Theater. He saw action in the Peninsula campaign and in the Battle of Antietam. General Jones had longstanding health problems forcing him to resign. He died of these problems in 1863.
Confederate General Jones Mitchell Withers graduated from West Point in 1835. He was ranked 44th among his graduating class of 56 cadets. Withers spent most of the war in the Western Theater. He is best remembered for his performance at the Battle of Stone's River. He was paroled after the battle at Meridian, Mississippi.
