Edward Alleyn was a prominent English actor and theatrical entrepreneur of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras, born in 1566. He is best known for his performances in the plays of Christopher Marlowe, particularly as the lead in "Doctor Faustus." In addition to his acting career, Alleyn founded the Fortune Theatre in London and was influential in the development of early English theatre. He later became a wealthy benefactor, establishing the Dulwich College in 1619.
