The first oil well was drilled in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It was drilled by Edwin L. Drake, whose Idea it was. Everyone thought that this was ridiculous then, and called his idea "Drake's Folly." They stopped laughing when it produced immense amounts of oil.
