George Washington accepted the position of Commander in Chief on June 15, 1775. He had been a delegate to the Continental Congress since 1774.
A little of each. He gained his military skills while in the service of the English during the French and Indian War. He then became a rebel in the Revolutionary War against the British.
Bush was because he had nothing to do with rebelling against the british in the 1700"s Washington is by a very long way. At least he fought for his principles. He may have been a rebel in the eyes of the British but no one can doubt his courage or ability. His command of the English language was probably far better too.
