The battle of senlac ridge, year -1066 ,hereward of bourne also fought at harolds side. Also the archbishop stigant of canterbury-(who i am related to) also supported harold. Plus edith swanneck -(the queen of edward) ,before edward died ,he requested that -william of normandy should take the english throne.hes (nova norrisima) (last words). Stigant ,godwin of ely,(harold)edith swanneck and hereward of bourne decided over the following week of edwards death, that harold would be made king.as they did not aggree with edward that a norman should be monarch .the rightfull cerdician blood line should have been -edgar the aetherlin, but he was to young to stand up to william of normandy. And that a saxon should sit on the throne of england.it was a sad loss for all england when harold was defeated by william at senlac ridge,if harold had waited just 2 hours before battle commenced,for hes other reinforcements to arrive, he would have won the battle. Stigant,hereward,and edith , did not die at senlac ridge .herewards wounds healed in time , and he then many years later fought in the crusades,and then dissapeared to retire, stigant went on to serve william, and another 2 monarchs before he was excommunicated ,and all hes wealth and lands were confiscated, and he died in jail. Edith swanneck also remained a true saxon up untill her death.as did her 3 compannions.
