Good Friday started at sunset on what we would call Thursday and ran until sunset on Friday. The Sabbath started at sunset Friday and ended at sunset on Saturday. At the cross the Roman soldiers broke the legs of the two theives so that they would die before the Sabbath and not suffer during the Sabbath. That lets us know that Good Friday ended prior to the Sabbath.
