Grey Cooper died in 1801.
Charlie Grey was one of the four men who made a mad dash during summer from the exploration party's base at Cooper Creek to the Gulf of Carpentaria. The other three were Robert O'Hara Burke, William Wills and John King. Grey was the first to die, during the southward trek back to Cooper Creek. Because the group spent a full day burying Grey, they missed reaching their base before their relief party left, seven hours before their arrival.
the setting in The Grey King by Susan Cooper is in Wales in the countryside.
