On the 27th of October 2011 there were two. One was on pay for judges and one was on powers of the Oireachtas to investigate.
A referendum to allow divorce in Ireland.
Ireland has had many referendums, so it depends on which one you mean.
A referendum to allow it happened in 1996, and now there is divorce in Ireland.
i think its called a referendum
A "referendum" is held in Ireland when a proposed change to the constitution is being put to the Irish people.
The last execution in Ireland was held in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin. Michael Manning was hanged on Tuesday April 20, 1954. The death penalty was abolished in 1964 for all but the murder of gardaí, diplomats and prison officers. It was abolished by statute for these remaining offences in 1990 and was finally expunged from the Constitution of Ireland by a referendum in 2001.
The last referendum in Australia was on the 6th of November, 1999.
yes ireland had a referendum. in fact they had 2 the first one caused so much chaos many irish thought it was a mistake. after they made a few ammendments the 2nd referendum went fine the euro was apopted to their currency.
A referendum on Irish unity will be held, when it is believed that the majority of people in Northern Ireland want such a referendum to be held (i.e. when Sinn Fein and other nationalists take the majority of seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly). Talks will then be held with the British and Irish governments on holding a referendum and legislation will be introduced to allow a referendum to take place. Once that legislation has been passed the public will then vote on the legislated date on the constitutional future of Northern Ireland. At present unionists hold the majority of seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly. And recent public opinion polls have suggested that the majority of the Northern Ireland's (normally nationalist voting) catholic community want Northern Ireland to remain within the United Kingdom. So it is highly unlikely there will be any vote on Northern Ireland becoming part of Ireland for many years.
Northern Ireland isn't owned by England. It is part of the United Kingdom because in a referendum, the majority of the population of Northern Ireland voted to stay in the United Kingdom and not become part of the Republic of Ireland.
There is no conflict between Northern Ireland and the UK. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. However, a minority of the population of Northern Ireland want to leave the UK and become a part of the Republic of Ireland. There has been a referendum about this in the past and the majority of the Northern Ireland people want to remain in the UK. Democracy won the day.
Australia's last referendum was on 6 November 1999. It was held to determine whether or not Australia should become a republic. All six states voted against the proposal, with the "no" votes leading 54.87% to 45.13%.
