Jean V de Bueil was born in 1406.
In 1424 (about the end of the hundred year war) the count of Sancerre Jean V de Bueil, lord of Ussé, lays the structure of the castle. His son Antoine de Bueil, lord of Ussé in 1456, begins the building of the castle. The building and transformations will go on under successive owners, until the late 1600s. The gardens and the architecture are said to have inspired Charles Perrault for 'Sleeping Beauty'.
