It changed again to Marcus Aelius Aurelius Verus Caesar with his adoption by the emperor Antoninus Pius (Titus Fulvus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius). Aelius was the nomen gentilicium (clan name) of his adoptive father, who in turn got it from the previous emperor, Hadrian, who was his adoptive father of Antoninus Pius.
