McClures
In the era before Time, Newsweek, and The Week, McClure's was a general interest magazine that specialized in articles about literature, humor, social commentary, and current events; it also had short stories and serials, some by well-known authors like Rudyard Kipling. In addition to its articles, it had illustrations and cartoons. Some of the best essays in McClures were non-fiction. In the early 1900s, the magazine became known for "muckraking" articles, exposés that today would be associated with journalism and investigative reporting. McClures was published off and on from 1893 through 1929.
