The allegorical figures of 'Night" and 'Day' were created by Michelangelo for the Medici Tomb in the Church of San Lorenzo. The complete project was never finished. Micheangelo began work on the 'New Sacristry' in 1534, the same year he left Florence, and work continued until he was nearly 60. The statues seem to rest uneasily on the 'Tomb of Guiliano de' Medici' and are dated 1520-1534.
Michelangelo's "Day and Night," part of the Medici Chapel in Florence, contrasts with the Sistine Chapel ceiling in both theme and style. While the Sistine Chapel features dynamic, biblical narratives and vibrant colors, "Day and Night" embodies a more static, allegorical representation with a somber palette. The figures in "Day and Night" are more sculptural and introspective, emphasizing the passage of time, whereas the ceiling showcases energetic interactions and divine creation. This difference highlights Michelangelo's versatility as an artist, adapting his approach to fit the context and purpose of each work.

Neptune has a day and night cycle as does all the planets. Neptune's day and night are shorter than Earth's because it takes Neptune only 16 hours to complete a rotation.
Day and night are caused by the rotation of the Earth on its axis. As the Earth rotates, different parts of the planet are either facing towards the Sun (day) or away from the Sun (night). This rotation takes approximately 24 hours to complete, creating the cycle of day and night.

One complete turn of a planet's axis is known as a "single rotation." This rotation typically takes one day to complete on Earth, causing the cycle of day and night.
