The infamous "Moors Murders" were committed by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady between 1963 and 1965. The murders got the name because four of the victims bodies where found on the moor to the north of the A635 road. The couple stood trial and were convicted of the murders of John Kilbride, a 12 year old Lesley Ann Downey, a 10 year old Edward Evans, a 17 year old Brady and Hindley later confessed to the murders of Pauline Reade, a 16 year old Keith Bennett, a 12 year olf Several of the victims had been sexually abused and tortured before their deaths. The crimes outraged Britain at the time.
