After Jesus was taken prisoner by the temple guards and chief priests and was being tried by them Peter denied Our Lord three times.
Peter denyed knowing Jesus.
Yes he did. Three times.
Peter was questioned about and denied being an associate of Jesus by the girl who was at the door of the palace of the high priest, a group of people warming themselves at the fire there, and finally to a relation of Malchus, whose ear he had earlier severed.
Peter denied Jesus three times. Jesus foretold that Peter would deny him three times in Mark 14:30, and he did.

Judas denied knowing Jesus. The disciple Peter denied knowing Christ three times when questioned about his association with him in the hours after Jesus' arrest. Christ had predicted this would happen, and Peter vowed he never would. He was to bitterly regret his defection of his Lord, and worked diligently to establish the early church.

I do not think that St. Peter had a pet rooster. However, it is sometimes one of the symbols of the saint. The night before he died, Our Lord told Peter that before a rooster crowed (at dawn the following morning) that he would deny Our Lord three times. It happened just as Jesus predicted.
Peter proudly denied that he would ever deny Jesus , but he denied Jesus three times just as Jesus said he would do. And he was a favourite disciple.
According to the Christian scriptures, he was a fisherman, until Jesus called him to follow. He then became an apostle/disciple of Jesus and started to spread the Gospel. He was known to deny that he knew Jesus when the authorities wanted to stop Jesus and the new teachings. He later on became a martyr. The Catholics believe he was the first Pope. He is known more familiarly as "Saint Peter".
