The traction control was introduced in 1993. The new software is an optional add-on that was designed as a Saturn exclusive feature.

When the traction light is on you have the traction control turned on in your vehicle and traction control is activated. Traction control is applying brakes to a wheel that losing traction.
Turning off traction control turns off the traction control. This is useful if you don't want the traction control.

Racelogic do after market traction control, its worth asking if it is suitable for 4wd cars and wether it can use the signals from the abs sensors or not. Hope this helps. James

That is the way it is designed, assuming it is like the 96, 99, and 2002 antilock/traction control systems on the SC2's that I have owned. The turn off switch is a push button that toggles the traction control between on and off, but does not lock in the on position.
The selective traction control didn't appear until the 1998 model year but traction control started to be installed in 1995.
