When did Raymond thorsteinsson die?

DR. RAYMOND THORSTEINSSON passed away April 23, 2012 in Calgary, Alberta CANADA. He was 91 yrs old. He was a kind gentle man and a very well known geologist in Canada. He mapped all of Baffin Island with a dog sled team, and lived in igloos for 6 months of the year while working in the Arctic. I remember Uncle Raymond coming to Saskatchewan one winter and building an igloo at his family ...farm. He was presented with a Gold Metal by the Queen of England for his contributions to the Royal Geological Society. I have attached a list of some of his awards. If you google his name you will find tons more information on him. Dr. Raymond Thorsteinsson O.C., C.M., BA'44 Dr. Thorsteinsson is one of Canada's most well respected geologists. Over the years, he has led survey teams and field studies that have developed some of the most detailed geological maps and reports of territory in the Arctic Archipelago. A versatile scientist, he also made important contributions in the field of palaeontology, researched the Haughton Astrobleme, and retrieved records and artifacts left by early Arctic explorers. After years of traveling over and surveying virtually all the land along the northern edge of the Canadian Shield, Dr. Thorsteinsson prepared the first detailed geological maps of over 200,000 square miles in the Arctic islands. Awards Made Fellow of The Arctic Institute of North America 1969, Awarded the Gold Medal by the Royal Geographical Society 1973, Awarded the Willet G. Miller Medal by the Royal Society of Canada 1979, Awarded the Logan Medal by the Geological Association of Canada 1981, Awarded the Massey Medal by Royal Canadian Geographical Society 1982, Awarded the R.
