Stephen F. Austin
Stephen F. Austin is known as the father of the state of Texas. He brought of 300 families to the area from the United States.
Stephen F. Austin asked Mexico for permission to start a colony in Texas and is known as an impresario. In 1821, he received a land grant to bring settlers to the region, which played a crucial role in the early development of Texas. Austin's efforts helped establish the foundation for the American presence in Texas during that period.

Stephen F. Austin was arrested because he sent a letter back to Texas stating that they should begin forming a government if given permission from Santa Anna. The letter was intercepted by Mexican Officials who believed he was trying to start a revolution. Stephen F. Austin was released because he was never charged with a crime, and never had a trial.
Moses Austin wanted to colonize Texas because he had lost all his money in the Panic of 1819. He could not escape his debt in any conventional way so he wanted to establish his own colony as a source of income.
