Parnell and Davitt were members of the Irish Nationalist movement of the 19th century. It comes from Captain Boycott, who was a landowner in Ireland, who did not support the Land League campaigning for the rights of Irish tenant farmers. The league therefore refuse to work on his land, neighbours refused to talk to him or buy his produce, shops would not serve him, his mail was not delivered. Term boycott from the local people "boycotting" him.
