Their first test was in 1949. It was a test of a clone of Fatman, from plans supplied by Klaus Fuchs and Ted Hall. The US accidentally detected its fallout in fallout samplers being tested for future US testing a few weeks after the test. The US announced that they had detected the test a couple months later and gave approximate shot date range (which was correct).
