Union General Alexander Chambers graduated from West Point in 1853. He was ranked 43rd among his graduating class of cadets that numbered 52. Chambers served in the Western Theater of the US Civil War. He served at the battles of Shiloh, Iuka and the siege of Vicksburg.
Union General Alexander Hayes graduated from West Point in 1844. Among the 24 cadets graduating that year, Hayes was ranked 20th. Hayes saw action in many large battles in the Eastern Theater. As an aside, he was a close personal friend of General US Grant.
Confederate General Alexander Welch Reynolds graduated from West Point in 1838. He was ranked 35th among his graduating class of 45 cadets. Reynolds served in the Western Theater during the war. He is best known for trying to defend Vicksburg.
Union General Alexander McDowell McCook graduated from West point in 1852. He ranked 30th in a graduating class of 43 cadets. McCook saw early fighting in the West when he was under the command of General Don Carlos Buell. He met the army of Confederate General Braxton Bragg in the unintended battle at Perryville.
Confederate General Alexander Peter Stewart graduated from West Point in 1842. Among the 56 graduating cadets, Stewart ranked 9th. Stewart saw allot battlefield duty. He participated in battles like Shiloh, Perryville, and against Sherman in Georgia.
Confederate General Alexander Robert Lawton graduated from West Point in 1839. Among his graduating class of 31 cadets, Lawton was ranked 13th. Lawton saw action at the Battle of Antietam and the Peninsula campaign. After being wounded he became the Confederate Quartermaster.
Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith was a graduate of West Point's class of 1845. He ranked 26th in his class.

Confederate General Jean Jacques Alfred Alexander Mouton graduated from West Point in 1850. He was ranked 38th in his graduating class of cadets that numbered 44. Mouton served in the Western Theater of the US Civil War. He saw action in the important Battle of Shiloh and later in the Red River Campaign.
Union General Schuyler Hamilton graduated from West point in 1841. Among the graduating class of 52 cadets, Schuyler ranked 24th. Schuyler was the grandson of Alexander Hamilton. Schuyler saw action in the Western Theater, at Corinth, Mississippi.Due to illness he was forced to resign in 1863.
Confederate General Edward Porter Alexander graduated from West Point in 1857. Among the 38 cadets who graduated that year, Alexander ranked 3rd. General Alexander was in agreement with General Longstreet. His proposal was that the combined forces of generals Bragg and Johnston would defeat Union General Rosencrans which would have allowed the Confederates to then drive towards Cincinnati, Ohio. This would solve many problems. With General Lee crossing the Potomac and heading towards Pennsylvania, and another Confederate army marching towards Ohio would surely end any siege around Vicksburg. The North simply could not afford to have two powerful Union states be occupied with Southern armies.

General Philip Henry Sheridan graduated from West Point in 1853. He ranked 34th out of a class of 52.
