Northern Illinois is mostly zone 5 with some parts near Chicago being zone 6. The last possible frost is usually around Mother's Day but some years the weather is more mild and you can plant sooner. If you do, be prepared to put out plastic drop cloth or something if there is a sudden cold snap.
