And yes, according to Wikipedia, the store was originally opened in 1892 as an "outfitter" type store (sporting goods, camping gear, outdoor clothing, etc.). Not sure when they went to "hip" clothing-only line, but it might have been an outcome of being bought out by The Limited in the 1980s. Wikipedia is an unparalleled trivia resource for such questions BTW. Check out what they say about Ernest Hemingway and Abercrombie & Fitch by doing a history search on the store name. Ewwwww.
