British Somaliland changed its name to Somalia when it merged with South Somalia in 1960.

However, in 1991 it sought to break away from somalia and called itself Somaliland for 20 years from 1991 to 2011. In 2012 it will be renamed

Somailyard (or Somalilaan ) ie dropping the word land which is not somali but english colonial name and replacing it with Ard which means land in arabic.
