Many species of dinosaurs were evolving and then becoming extinct through out the age of the dinosaurs. From the earliest dinosaurs 230 million years ago to the last of the big dinosaurs, 65.5 million years ago they were becoming extinct. The majority of species were extinct long before the K-T extinction event.

About 65.5 million years ago an increase in volcanism combined with a huge asteroid impact caused the deaths of many large dinosaurs along with marine reptiles and the pterosaurs. This however did not make dinosaurs fully extinct. One clade of feathered flying therapod dinosaurs survived the K-T extinction and went on to flourish. You can still go out and find them in nearly every environment on earth today. These dinosaurs are the birds. Many species of birds have evolved and died in the time since the K-T event.
