By 300 million years ago, all forms of fungi existed, but earlier records are a bit sketchy. Nevertheless, there are some undisputed fossils of fungi from around 400-440 million years ago. Also, many of the earliest plant fossils show the presence of mycorrhizae.

Although the origin of fungi is a mystery, most biologists assume that the fungi evolved from protists. Moreover, most assume that fungi probably existed as early as the terrestrial environment was first colonized by life: "From their inception, terrestrial communities have depended on (fungi)". Probably, fungi moved with plants from the aquatic habitat.

Fungi was first discovered by A man named Tino Vasquez in 1782. then his research was updated by a man named Ricky Mann in 1891.
