1848 in the traces of Sutter's saw mill. Sutter didn't want it advertised because he knew what would happen. When it did get headlines in the newspapers his prediction came true. Thousands came into CA and within 2 years it became a state in 1850. Sutter lost everything in the gold rush and died broke and unhappy.
