However, there are indications that he may never have done so; one of his friends wrote that he had a "monk-like chastity", and while there was at least one woman -- the widow Vittoria Colonna -- that he was quite fond of, he is reported to have said that his one regret in life is that he "did not kiss the widow's face in the same manner that he had her hand."
