The most famous line was "Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell and George the Third - ." The Royalists started shouting "Treason!" Henry replied "If this be treason, make the most of it."

∙ 11y agoPatrick Henry ended a speech given to the Virginia Convention in Richmond Virginia on March 23, 1775 with the famous line, "Give me liberty or give me death!" The speech helped convince Virginia's colonial legislature to raise a militia and get ready to defend the colony against Great Britain's army, even before the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired at Concord and Lexington.

∙ 10y agoThe speech was given March 23, 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia. Speaking to the Virginia Convention, he said (in part):
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!
(This was given just one month before the first battles of the Revolutionary War.)
