The first Olympic Games were held in776 BC (or they were the first recorded.) At first there was just one event: running. The games were held every four years. Some later ancient games included a relay race: a torch was passed from one runner to the next. The last runner of the winning team lit a fire on an altar. I think nobody knows exactly when this event started. Later this event was adapted for the modern Olympics.

The "pick up" of a relay is a setting at which the relay will begin to operate. Such as an overcurrent relay - if the pickup is set to 5A, when 5A is flowing through the relay, the relay will operate.
In order to have an idea on how to find a relay, more information is needed. Relay races are often listed on community calendars, on racing group websites, and at local gyms.
