∙ 8y agoAll early explorers who conducted expeditions to Antarctica during the 'Heroic Period' -- about 1899 to about 1922 -- were funded at least in part by people interested in researching that geography. These were the expeditions where the first temperatures, wind speeds, geographic samples and so forth were taken and brought back to investors who paid for these efforts.
