You will need to include the serial number to get the correct year of manufacture.
check out www.savage99.com
Contact Savage Customer Service through their website.
You may find the date of manufacture by going to savage99.com This should give you the info that you seek.
You should contact Savage arms directly, they should identify the year of manufacture for your rifle.
Your Savage was made in the year 1937 if you have a model 99 lever action rifle.
Savage centerfire rifles with serial number beginning w/"F761..." were produced starting around the end of 1998. I have records of a 516BSAK Savage Striker pistol with serial number starting w/ "F7616.." dated as received on 12/28/98 and Savage 11G, serial number starting w/ "F7606.." as being received earlier in December 1998. These firearms came directly from the factory (we are a sales Rep. agency for Savage). Current Savage centerfire firearms are using serial numbers beginning w/ "G7....". (10/30/08)
THE LETTER IN THE SERIAL # IS WHAT DETERMANS YEAR OF MANUFACTURE. SAVAGE WILL GIVE YOU A LIST.
If it was manufactured after Dec 31, 1968, the serial number will be plainly marked on the receiver. There will be some numbers under the barrels, but they may serial numbers or just batch/lot numbers that will not help identify the date of manufacture. Serial numbers were not required on long arms in the US until 1969.
Depending on the year of manufacture, there will be no serial number. Serial numbers are a relatively new requirement.
You will have to call Savage
i would need to know the serial number of your Savage model 99 rifle to determine the year of manufacture.
