When did scientists discover how cholera was spread?

Cholera bacteria was first isolated by Filipo pancini 1812-1883, 84 years before he was actually credited with its discovery. A paper was published by him in in 1854 during the Asiatic cholera pandemic of 1846-63. in it he has the description of the cholera causing organism and its relationship to the disease. It was titled Microscopical observations and pathological deductions on cholera.

John Snow was a physician in London in the 1800's. He is now recognized as the first epidemiologist for determining how a cholera outbreak was spreading around SOHO.

He determined that it was originating from one water well in the center of the neigborhood. When that well was shut down, the epidemic subsided.

This was many years before people accepted that diseases could be caused by microbes and before it was shown that Cholera specifically was caused by a bacterium.
