Street dancing is popular within a lot of cultures, and there are a lot of different types. In the UK (largely in London) street dance in the form of break dancing is popular and this originated in New York. Street dancing is very popular in Brazilian culture, American and British culture, and also the hip-hop and rave cultures throughout the world. There are also Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean, South American and West African cultures.
No street dancing is not illegal
Dancing has been around since the beginning of music. I believe that dancing has always been, and will always be popular with different groups of people although particular styles of dance become more popular in different eras. For example, now hip hop is the popular style, in the seventies it was disco, and in the fifties the jitterbug.
Break dancing which is also known as 'B-boying' is a style of street dance that originated among African-American and Puerto Rican which became popular in New York City during the early 1970s.
Street dancing was popular in the 1980's when many people couldn't afford to go to a professional dance hall to practice. So Street Dancing was made and many competitions were created since then in which the prizes are "respect" and money.
Street dancing and break dancing are different things. Then can often be seen together, as a routine, but they can be seperatley. Break dancing is floor work, and can involve street dancing where you are not on the floor. Sheena x
