In fact, by a signed treaty the Cherokee entered into an agreement with the United States to take the land, now known as Arkansas and formed "The Cherokee Nation." When gold was discovered in Arkansas, General Tyler was dispatched to 'relocate' the Cherokee Nation, although they were a viable entity.
