The Christian faith began with the crucifixion and subsequent resurrection of Jesus Christ in A.D. 33.

Another Answer:

Some have dated the Father's Church established by Jesus on Earth, to have begun on the 1st Pentecost - the free availability of God's Holy Spirit to all who will repent and follow Jesus (Acts 2:38-40). This has been dated to be a Sunday (50 days after the Resurrection on a Saturday), June 17, 31 A.D..

The spread of Christianity would have begun at approximately the year 0, or perhaps a decade or two before that. The year 0 marks the death of christ. I don't know how old he was when he started preaching but it was probably a max of 30 years before he was put to death.

Christianity began when Jesus was on the Earth. Matthew 16:18 is where Jesus the beginning of His church (Not to be confused with the Catholic church). The true church follows the scripture, and the scriptures alone. Catholics cannot claim this as they follow the traditions of the church as well as the decrees of the Popes.

So Christianity began about 2000 years ago and comes out of the Jewish religion as Jesus was the fulfilment of the Prophecy of the Messiah who came to take away the sins of the world. The continuing of the Jews today is simply because they did not all accept Jesus as God's Son.

Though many groups today claim to be Christian among the Catholics, Protestants and Baptists, only those who have kept the faith of the Word of God are true members of God's church on earth. The Church of God has been carried down through the ages by peoples and groups known by these names; Paulitians, Albagensies, Novations, Donatists, Huguenots, Waldensians, Anabaptists, Pedo-Baptists, Baptists, New Evangelicals, and Southern Baptists. Today's Bible following Christians (Those who hold to God's Word alone as the spiritual guide to life and the church) are known as Independent, Fundamental, Bible Believing (KJV) Baptists.
