Gradually. Napoleon as First Consul removed the 10-day week, returning to 7. Then on 22 fructidor an XIII (9 septembre 1805), under the Empire, the Senate decreed that the Gregorian calendar would be reinstated on11 nivôse, 1 janvier, 1806.

It's worth mentioning that the French are deeply conservative in many ways - I know French people who still count in francs instead of Euros, and in Old Francs at that, 50 years after the reform of the currency - and that practically nobody outside official bulletins ever really used the Republican Calendar except insofar as the 10-day week impacted their working lives..

The Second French Republic was, more or less abolished when Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, President of the Republic, launched a coup d'etat of his own state to install himself as a dictator on December 2, 1851. However, the official end of the Second Republic came after Louis-Napoleon held a plebiscite that demonstrated that the French People agreed with his consolidation of power. Several additional referendums were passed consolidating Louis-Napoleon's power and on November 7, 1852, the Second French Empire was proclaimed and Louis-Napoleon took the title of Emperor Napoleon III on December 2, 1852.

The Second French Republic survived for only four years (1848-1852).
